This was an epic trip we made to reenact in the Eastern bloc. With Phillip Elliot-Wright, Neil Morrison and Dr David Chandler. Was also with French reenactors of the
18e. A single Coachload from the U.K. I had only recently joined the NA so I got to know everyone well. Started off in Austria doing Wagram and visiting Vienna. Then on to our destination. Had a really long wait at the border about 4 hours and David Chandler kept us amused with giving us an impromptu lecture on Austerlitz. We were shadowed by secret police. We weren't allowed to go Prague. It was very weird. We visited someone's house and went for a meal in a restaurant. We got to reenact Austerlitz. Some of these pics are from Military Hobbies magazine shared by Howard Giles. It was just before the
Velvet Revolution. One of the first reenactments with people from East Germany and Czechoslovakia. Quite emotional at times chatting to people who had really suffered. The Czech reenactors had their own beer barrels which they used to put in a dug hole in the ground to keep it cool. Very hospitable. The next year or so they came to the U.K. for an event at Gloucester.
